War Horse Brewing Company
War Horse Brewing Company (formerly Barley Yards Brewing Company), part of the Three Brothers Wineries & Estates, is a brewery operated by Dave Mansfield in Geneva, New York, USA. The brewery opened on May 24, 2008 and is the first brewery in the United States to brew a Riesling ale, made by blending the wort of an American-style wheat beer with ten percent juice from Riesling grapes.
==The Riesling ale==
Custom Brewcrafters, an offsite brewpub in Honeoye Falls, makes the Riesling ale for the War Horse brewery, blending wheat beer with New York Riesling juice. The two are then fermented together and sold by the growler at both breweries for about twelve dollars. The Riesling ale is currently their best seller,〔 but they also brew a dark American-style lager, an India Pale Ale, a raspberry wheat beer and an amber ale, as well as a non-alcoholic root beer. The Riesling juice takes the edge off the normally bitter beer, which is 4.5 percent alcohol by volume. Dave Mansfield, owner of the War Horse brewery, credits his wife with the concept.
